Finnish car tax calculator 2026 – car tax by CO2 emissions
Calculate the car tax (autovero) on a new passenger car with the Finnish Tax Administration's tax table 1A: enter the list price without car tax and the WLTP CO2 emissions. The car tax on fully electric and hydrogen cars is 0%.
The tax rate depends on CO2 emissions gram by gram: 1 g/km is 2.7% and 360 g/km or more is 48.9%. The tax is calculated on the taxable value (verotusarvo), which is the general retail value including all taxes. For a new car it is the list price without car tax, minus the usual discounts (5.5% and €250), divided by (1 − tax rate).
How much car tax do you pay on a new car in Finland?
A €35,000 car with emissions of 120 g/km pays about €3,446 in car tax (9.5%). A €60,000 car at 180 g/km pays about €19,600 (25.8%). A fully electric car pays €0. The rates did not change for 2026. Source: Finnish Tax Administration.

For a used car brought to Finland, the taxable value is the price of a similar car on the Finnish market, not what you paid. Use the Tax Administration's own car tax calculator for an exact estimate before you import.
The taxable value includes all taxes, the car tax itself too. That is why the price without car tax is divided by (1 − tax rate).
An electric car's basic tax is €171.18 a year (registered after 1 October 2021), plus a power source tax of 1.9 cents a day per started 100 kg.
